The Bible and Works “We believe that works of any kind are not at all even involved in man’s salvation from sin. Works, though, can determine the degree of one’s reward. Salvation is wholly of grace, resting only on Jesus’ death and his perfect works….Works are absent in the salvation of the individual….” Introduction: The quote on slide one is a composite from just about all denominationalists. This theology involves many serious problems. If the quote is correct, then why are all men unconditionally saved and how can God unconditionally save some while arbitrarily condemning others without being a respecter of persons? (Acts 10: 34, 35).

The Bible and Works Some scriptures to consider: Romans. 4: 1-7 James 2: 14-26 Romans 11: 6 Romans 2: 6-9 Acts 10: 43 Acts 2: 38 Titus 3: 5 Titus 3: 5 Comments: The scriptures on the left are used in an effort to prove “works” are excluded; while the scriptures on the right are introduced to prove “works” are included. Explain and harmonize these two classes.

The Bible and Works Teaching of the Bible: God determines what is a “good work.” 1. Matt. 7: 21-23, I Cor. 15: 58, cp. Jas. 1: 27.

Teaching of the Bible: Works identify. 1. Tit. 1: 16, Matt. 7: 16. The Bible and Works Teaching of the Bible: Works identify. 1. Tit. 1: 16, Matt. 7: 16.

The Bible and Works Teaching of the Bible: God demands good works. 1.Gen. 3: 19, Eph. 4: 28, 2 Thes. 3: 11, 12. Comments: Jesus is the author of salvation to all who obey him (Heb. 5: 8, 9).

Teaching of the Bible: Prepared to every good work. 1. 2 Tim. 2: 21. The Bible and Works Teaching of the Bible: Prepared to every good work. 1. 2 Tim. 2: 21. Comments: Stress, “every good work.”

Teaching of the Bible: Others see our good works. 1. Matt. 5: 16. The Bible and Works Teaching of the Bible: Others see our good works. 1. Matt. 5: 16. Comments: Our works result in God’s glorification!

The Bible and Works Teaching of the Bible: Works determine eternal destiny. 1. 2 Cor. 11: 15, 2 Tim. 4: 14, Rom. 2: 6-9.

The Bible and Works Teaching of the Bible (review): 1. God determines good work. 2. Works identify. 3. Christians created for the purpose of works. 4. God demands good works. 5. To be prepared to every good work. 6. Others see our good works. 7. Works determine our eternal destiny. Comments: Stress than man cannot merit or work for his salvation (payment system). However, works such as belief (I John 6: 29) are simply part of man accepting God’s saving grace.

The Bible and Works Conclusion: “10: So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do” (Luke 17). Introduction: The quote on slide one is a composite from just about all denominationalists. This theology involves many serious problems.
