First Aid Procedures FOR MEDICAL EMERGENCY, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY CONTROL BLEEDING CLEANSE WOUND REPORT BITE SEEK MEDICAL FOLLOW UP NOTIFY THE COUNTY

Helpful Information DOG AND CATE BITES Animal quarantine is required if rabies status is unknown. High frequency of wound infection with pasteurella and other oral pathogens. Likely to require antibiotic treatment.

Helpful Information REPTILE AND BIRD BITES Possible exposure to bacterial pathogens that sometimes require antibiotic treatment for deep wounds.

Helpful Information LARGE ANIMAL BITES (COWS/HORSES) Animal quarantine is required if rabies status is unknown. Extent of medical care depends upon the degree of tissue trauma.

TIME TO TAKE A TEST

1. If you are bitten by an animal, but have no bleeding you should a.  Apply continuous pressure to the area b.   Do nothing and continue working c.   Rinse the area for 30 seconds d. Wash the area immediately with soap and water for at least 5 minutes
