A Tarnished Crown 1 Samuel 13; 10:7-8

Saul’s sin Unlawful sacrifice to God. Winning trumped worshipping. Leaning on the wrong person.

Lessons from Saul’s sin Obeying God means obeying Scripture. Ideas that conflict w/ Scripture are foolish. God assesses our motives. The power of one bad choice. There are no little sins in their effect. There is no “almost obedience”. God has replacements.

Chapter outline: 1 Samuel 13 Saul is slow to obey (1-5) Saul’s failure, Samuel’s rebuke (6-14) Saul’s desperate straits (15-23)

After God’s Own Heat Hebrews 1:8–9 — 8 But of the Son He says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, And the righteous scepter is the scepter of His kingdom. 9 “You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of gladness above Your companions.” (Psa 45:6–7).

After God’s Own Heat Romans 5:18–19 — 18 So then as through one transgression there resulted condemnation to all men, even so through one act of righteousness there resulted justification of life to all men. 19 For as through the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, even so through the obedience of the One the many will be made righteous.
