FIGURE 2 Distribution of first anti-seizure medication selected in nine pediatric epilepsy centers. Among the nine study centers that enrolled at least 20 children with nonsyndromic epilepsy, levetiracetam was the most commonly selected first medication at each hospital; however, the proportion of children prescribed levetiracetam at the sites ranged from 29% to 75% (P < 0.0001). TPM, topiramate; OXC, oxcarbazepine; PB, phenobarbital; LVT, levetiracetam. Pediatric Neurology 2017 75, 73-79DOI: (10.1016/j.pediatrneurol.2017.06.011) Copyright © 2017 Elsevier Inc. FIGURE 3 Second anti-seizure medication selected for 233 children with early-life epilepsy. For 233 children a second anti-seizure medication was prescribed because of lack of seizure control (n = 188) or side effects (n = 29). Among 109 children who received a drug other than levetiracetam as their initial medication, 68 (62%) received levetiracetam as their second medication. LTG, lamotrigine; CLB, clobazam; ZNM, zonisamide; TPM, topiramate; OXC, oxcarbazepine; PB, phenobarbital; LVT, levetiracetam.
