Work Work is the transfer of energy that results from applying a force over a distance Work is done by forces that cause movement The force applied and the distance covered MUST be in the same direction, or no work is done.

Calculating Work A crane lifts a 50 N crate 2 m. How much work does the crane do? A teacher carries a 250 N pile of textbooks across the room 3 m. How much work does the teacher do? How far does a 100 N force have to move to do 1,000 J of work?
