TITLE: MY REFLECTIONS ON SEMESTER 1 OF THE MSc CMCP COURSE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MAURITIUS PRESENTED BY: UDHIN WAAIZA DATE: 7TH DECEMBER 2004

TARGET AUDIENCE: DIRECTOR OF VCILT, LECTURERS AIM: To give an overview of my perceptions of the first semester of the CMCP course

Why I opted for that course? Since we are in an age where we encounter technology in every turn, I am confident that this course will equip me with the technological skills to become a critical user of tools used by experts The pedagogical part of it To achieve better career prospects

Modules offered in the first Semester ILT 6010 : Cognitive Sciences and Learning ILT 6011: Principles of Computer-Mediated Communication ILT 6015: Multimedia Animation Techniques and Tools

ILT 6010 : Cognitive sciences and Learning This module enables me to : Know what is learning Discover the cognitive sciences Elaborate on knowledge modeling using specific software Work in a team (Collaborative work) Understand how a learner perceives things

Activities covered in module ILT 6010 (COG.) Familiarise with the environment Introduction of the MOT software and building a knowledge model in cognitive sciences Develop cognitive perceptions of learning and building a pedagogical handbook

ILT 6011: Principles of Computer- Mediated Communication This module has helped me in : Familiarising with the basic concepts of computer-mediated pedagogies Discovering the LOR, a digital library Discovering e-savoir, a cognitive modeling tool Discovering and using the simplest web editing tool (WIKI) Discovering and using the VCILT I-Learn virtual campus platform

Activities covered in module ILT 6011 (PRI) Choosing a topic to work on Input of 10 Reusable Learning Objects relating to the topic chosen in the digital library, LOR Representing the information of the topic in a simple shareware, e-savoir Implementing the model in WIKI by creating the appropriate links Creating an e-learning module on ilearn

ILT 6015: Multimedia Animation Techniques and Tools This module has enabled me to: Know about the multimedia applications and their benefits of uses Describe the production process of pedagogical multimedia resources Define properties and formats of the medias concerned by multimedia integration Know the techniques used to publish multimedia animations

Activities covered in module ILT 6015 (MAT) Online Testing of the learning environment and tools Building a knowledge reference about multimedia Animating contents with Flash Animating contents with Director Building a pedagogical multimedia prototype

The benefits of the first semester of CMCP course for me are enormous : See things from multiple perspectives Group interaction significantly increased Become independent and able to manage own time and learning process Work towards fluency with the same tools used by professionals in their fields Acquiring different learning strategies Be constructors of own knowledge

Problems encountered High cost of internet Feedback on our work sometimes restricted Cannot proceed with work when technical problems are encountered

Suggestions A briefing session on the introduction of a new topic To provide support to students by reimbursing part of the internet cost
