Nurse Role & NET Education An Electronic Survey Across 26 Countries Cathy Bouvier ENETS 2018 ENETs Nurse Group

Survey Design 228 surveys answered from a total of 26 countries All answered by nurses Simple - only 13 questions Translated into 5 languages: Spanish, French, German, Swedish & Dutch Aimed for European but ended up giving a more world wide perspective. However this was 1 nurse in some countries e.g , so very aware that this is a snapshot of information but more than we had before and in line with development of ENETs growing as an International conference.

Survey Design Not Perfect! Never attempted before Preliminary Survey to try and find nurses – utilising ENETs registry Second Survey utilising social media, ENETs admin support, local meetings and local/national/international networks & conferences– not NET specific Electronic survey using Survey Monkey

Q1

Q2 Number of Respondents NET Specific Nurses Non-NET Specific Nurses 221 17 204 7.69% 92.3%

Q3 Number of respondents Part of a NET MDT Not part of a NET MDT 220 97 123 44% 56%

Q4 199 respondents Asked people to tick multiple boxes – across all roles 92% of people answered are not NET nurse specialists Majority of patients being seen as outpatients however we do not know the crossover and we can assume that some nurses will see inpatients and outpatients. Do you see patients as inpatients or outpatients? What is your role as a nurse taking care of neuroendocrine tumor patients within your hospital?

How many NET patients seen per month Q5 How many NET patients seen per month <10 147/211 65.3% 10-25 36/211 16% 25-50 9/211 4% >50 17/211 7.5% 211 respondents

Q6 191 respondents Where are you based within your institution?

Where do you get knowledge about NET's from? Q7 210 respondents Where do you get knowledge about NET's from?

Q 8 – We must take note 51.4% said YES 48.6% said NO 208 respondents Do you feel confident enough to help and support your neuroendocrine tumor patients? 208 respondents

Which would be the most useful to gain NET Education? Q9 105 respondents Choices Given Top 3 Chosen 1-Online Education 1- Hospital Based Teaching 2-Booklets 2- Online 3-Hospital Based Treatment 3- National Conferences 4-National Conference 5-International conferences Which would be the most useful to gain NET Education?

Q10 – How do you get your education on NETs? 105 respondents

Q11 & Q12 Able to attend national/international conference? 203 respondents Yes = 67.5% No = 21.7% 82 different conferences and meetings named in the survey Are you supported financially for these events? 198 respondents Yes = 42% No = 58%

Findings & Recommendations More statistical analysis unpick country specific information& look at all data more specifically Q11/12 missing paramount question – who pays? The face value data shows we should move forward with educational strategies focusing on online & hospital based teaching Success will require collaborative approach - an MDT approach Interesting question raised about relevance of content at International conferences - not specific enough for nurses? Lowest form of education in this survey Look at educational initiatives that have worked on a European scale in other cancer types Nothing from France – need to encourage participation UK, Germany, Ireland, Turkey, Spain most prominent 51.4% of nurses not confident in knowledge of NETs – that has huge impact on our patients Use what we have learnt to plan 2019/2020 the year of training!
