Organic compound Makes up all life forms, occurs naturally in living things and consist of mainly CARBON and HYDROGEN

Inorganic compound Does NOT contain carbon or hydrogen together and is NOT made from living matter Examples: salt, water, carbon dioxide

Amino acids A special organic molecule used by living organisms to make proteins

carbohydrate Can be a simple sugar or complex sugar that the body breaks down into glucose which is used to feed the body

lipids Fats, steroids, and waxes that do not dissolve in water and are used as energy storage in our bodies

Proteins A nutrient found in food that is made of amino acids which are essential for life

Nucleic acids Large molecules where genetic formation is stored; made up of a nitrogenous base and type of sugar
