BALANCE

BALANCE Balance is the feeling of equilibrium among the elements. It's the sense of being comfortable with the visual weight in the work of art. In this painting the performer in the carnival is brightly dressed. He balances the composition even though the figures are spread unevenly across the painting.

SYMMETRICAL BALANCE When the elements of art on both sides of a central vertical line appear to be about equal in shape, weight, value and color. This can also be called formal balance

RADIAL BALANCE Radial Balance is a special type of symmetrical balance. Radial happens when all the elements radiate out from a central point. Top/bottom.left/right all appear to look the same. This commonly is used in jewelry design in the case of a brooch and items like that.

ASYMMETRICAL BALANCE Asymmetrical balance has two sides that are different in the composition but they are visually in balance. The three quiet, still people (brightly colored) are balanced by the smaller active birds . This kind of balance is also known as informal balance.

The smaller, irregular shape in the photograph balances with the larger, circular, simple shape. The smaller, darker shape has more interest and therefore has more visual weight.
