In week 1 you looked at finding your passion.

Last week was all about Finding Your Mission!

We defined mission like this: “Mission is what you want to be and do to others to impact them positively during your life-time.”

We answered four questions to help us identify our mission: (1) What must you BE to impact people? (2) What must you DO to impact people? (3) Who do you want to Impact? (4) What will be the result of the impact?

We then filled in this mission statement chart.

And wrote our mission statement out in a sentence.

This week you will be Finding Your Destiny.

Sharing: How is Destiny different to Mission?

What is Destiny? Destiny is the specific task that God has placed me on earth to accomplish.

Here is a comparison between Mission (Mission is what you want to be and do to others to impact them positively during your life-time) and Destiny (Destiny is the specific task that God has placed you on earth to accomplish). So, mission is something that continues throughout your life while destiny is more short term and task orientated.

Destiny is (1) tailor made to my talents and gifts, (2) reflects my spiritual passion, (3) meets a need in society and (4) driven by a conviction to make a difference .

Destiny lies at the intersection of four things: Ability, Passion, Need and Conscience.

Video: The story of a guy, Stone, who connected his abilities, passion and conscience with a need in society.

My Destiny uses my ability; reflects my passion; answers a need and matches my conscience.

How do you find your Destiny How do you find your Destiny? There are four steps to finding your destiny!

Destiny lies at the intersection of four things: Ability, Passion, Need and Conscience.

1. My Abilities Worksheet: (1) What do you find easy to do that others find hard? (2) What are you really good at doing? (3) What are your gifts: natural or spiritual?

2. My Passion Worksheet: (1) What do you talk about that gets you excited? (2) What have been the 5 greatest achievements in your life? (3) What difference do you want to make in the world?

3. The Needs Worksheet: (1) What one thing would you like to change in the world around you? (2) What specific needs have you come across in the world in recent months? (3) If someone gave you a million Rand, how would you use it to meet needs around you?

4. My Conscience Worksheet: (1) What do you feel driven towards accomplishing with your life? (2) What do you want to be remembered for at the end of your life? (3) What would you be willing to die for?

Write Your Destiny: My Destiny is to...

Test Your Destiny: Ask these two questions to check that your destiny is on track: (1) How does it glorify God? (2) How does it build people?

Share Your Destiny: Take turns in your small group sharing your destiny. One person from each group will share their destiny statement with the whole group.

Live Your Destiny. Now it is up to you to live your destiny: (1) Grow Character: Watch your thoughts; they become your words. Watch your words; they become your actions. Watch your actions; they become your habits. Watch your habits; they become your character. Watch your character for it will become your destiny. (2) Take Responsibility: (a) Keep commitments, (b) Be proactive, (c) Be faithful in small thing. It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped. (Anthony Robbins) (3) Get Skills: Develop yourself in line with your destiny: (a) Read and study, (b) Learn new skills and (c) Practise new skills. Man is asked to make of himself what he is supposed to become to fulfil his destiny (Paul Tillich). (4) Do Something: (a) Pray, (b) Develop Prayer Partners, (c) Find Ministry Partners, (d) Take the First Step and (e) Overcome Obstacles. .

During the world war in Britain – when England was getting a hiding and at risk of being over-run by the Germans and wiped off the face of the earth, their prime minister. Winston Churchill got on the radio and called Britons to step up and live their destiny. He said: "To every man there comes in his lifetime that special moment when he is figuratively tapped on the shoulder and offered a chance to do a very special thing, unique to him and fitted to his talents…

He added: “What a tragedy if that moment finds him unprepared or unqualified for the work which would be his finest hour."

Prayer. We are going to pray that God will help you live your destiny!

Next week in the Treasure Hunter’s series you will be Finding Your Way.
