Reading @ 9:45 Reading is 90 minutes. The first part is whole group instruction. Split into groups to focus on specific student needs. This differentiation is designed to meet students at their level to maximize their reading skills. We encourage daily reading of 15 minutes at home. There are many ways to read. Please create a reading routine at home. Remember to sign Reading Logs each night.

Reading Objectives Introduce students to a variety of texts Fiction and Nonfiction Develop basic comprehension strategies Phonics (letter sounds and patterns) Word recognition (sight words) Vocabulary (able to define and use) Students are expected to read at 92 words per minute by the end of the school year (reading fluency) INSTILL A LOVE OF READING!

Parent Expectations Parents: Establish a supporting role for your child’s daily work routine. Establish expectations for success: Reading Logs, spelling practice, where and how to keep school materials.

Teacher Expectations Teachers: Help each child reach their full potential! Communicate responsibilities to students and parents. Keep parents informed through ClassDojo and Wednesday Express. Teach the Common Core State Standards Leave your expectations for us on the poster by the door.

Your child is like a car The major parts of their lives are the wheels. (School, Family, Friends, Extra Curriculars, etc…) When a wheel falls off because of instability, the entire car suffers! The entire child suffers, and then the other wheels can’t perform as well either Create a routine and schedule They don’t have to worry about as many things, if they can have a consistent expectation of when meals and school work will be done. Active parenting causes stability
