How Much Does Eating Organic Cost? Christine Selvy Jess Stehr Tyler Wood

Organic vs. Non-Organic Organic food: – Produced using environmentally sound methods Lack: – Pesticides and chemical fertilizers – GMOs Are not processed using: – Irradiation – Industrial solvents – Chemical food additives

How much does eating organic cost? 1.We each wrote down 11 items that we would typically buy when going to the grocery store. 2.We collaborated and determined which items between the three of us were the most common. 3.We went to Safeway in downtown Portland and compared prices of these items per unit (e.g. price per ounce/pound) and recorded them.

Conclusion In general, organic foods are more expensive to buy at the store. – One must take into consideration the resources used in the production and transportation of the food to the consumer Non-organic foods are more likely to go on sale because of greater supply and demand. The average income of the population inclines people to buy non-organic because of its cheapness. – Contributes to higher supply and demand of non- organics vs. organic
