The Right Way To Face Temptation (James 1:2-18)
Presentation transcript:

The Creator and His Creation Where Do We Come From? The Creator and His Creation

Job’s Character Upright (Job 1:1) Blessed with riches and family (Job 1:2-3) Peers in faith and righteousness - Noah and Daniel (Ezk 14:13-14) An example of endurance, perseverance, and its outcome (Jm 5:11)

Job’s Story Satan attacks again! Satan attacks! Purpose – cause him to curse God (1:9-11) Raiders kill servants, steal oxen, donkeys (1:14-15) Fire fell from sky and burned up sheep and servants (1:17) Chaldeans raided camels and killed servants (1:17) Wind collapsed house on children, killing all (1:19) In all this, Job did not sin! (1:22) Satan attacks again! Boils from head to foot (2:7) Wife encourages to curse God (2:9) Job still does not sin (2:9-10)

Job’s Complaint Exalts God (9:3) Feels he cannot bring his complaint before God (9:17) Feels God has brought this calamity on him and desires the explanation (10:1-2) Why do the wicked prosper? (21:7-9) “If only I could present my case” (23:1-7) Difficulty reconciling his calamity with his righteous life and God’s own righteousness and power

God’s Response – Non-living Elements God’s power, presence, and wisdom in creation (38:4-11) Earth Sea Stars Clouds Light & Darkness “Where were you?” Job has neither power, wisdom, nor was present to create the earth and all that is in it

God’s Response – Non-living Elements Weather – without man’s assistance or presence (38:22- 30, 34-38) Overflowing water Path for thunderbolt Division of light God does not need man’s help to accomplish (Acts 17:25) Celestial Bodies (38:31-33)

God’s Response – Living Creation Do you provide for them all? (38:39-39:30) Lions and cubs Birth of wild goats and deer Wild donkeys Wild oxen Ostriches Horses Eagles Speak up!

God’s Response Intrinsic Majesty 40:8-14 If you speak as judge, show power and do something about it! Rather adopt the attitude of Rom 3:4 “…let God be true but every man a liar. As it is written: ‘That you may be justified in Your words, And may overcome when You are judged.’” Mighty creatures beyond Job’s control Behemoth (40:15-24) Leviathan (41)

God Is Supreme In power over creation In understanding of creation In role as provider In judgment In relationship to God

Conclusion Job’s Response Our Responsibility “I have declared that which I did not understand, Things too wonderful for me, which I did not know.” (Job 42:3, NASB) Our Responsibility “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.” (1 Pet 5:6, NASB)
