Arabic 2 Kurzban Welcome to Arabic 2 by Kurzban Lesson 11: Seasons of the year Review Warm up: Connecting letters. Sun letters Practice Homework:

Lesson 11: Do Now Warm up: List all 4 seasons in Arabic, including the vowels, transliteration and the translation to the Word “Seasons” itself.

Sun Vs Moon letters In Arabic Listen to the following sentences: “ the shirt is white” الْقَمِيص أبْيَض “The car is new” السيارة جديدة

Continue connecting the letters to form words. Notice that الْقَمِيص is pronounced al-qamis, but السيارة is pronounced as-sayyara. This is because when (al, th, الْ) is added to words beginning with particular letters, the lam is pronounced like the first letter of what word and not as a lam. The letter “takes over” (assimilates the sound of the lam. When this assimilation happens, the first letter of the word sounds as though it is pronounced twice. “As-sayyara.”

Lesson 11: Sun letters/Moon letters Handout: Complete the table below as in the example.

Homework: Organize the following list of word based on first letter being sun or moon letter. ; التِّين , ; الشَّجرة; الذٌّباب; القَويّ ; المَصْنَع; الشَّارِع ; البَطِّيخ
