Welcome to Primary 5B Miss Madeleine Moore 1

Purpose of tonight… Meet your child’s teacher. Become more aware of some of the strategies we use to help your child learn. 2

Primary Five pupils are now the seniors in the middle school. Children are more independent and the expectation is of diligence and awareness of expectations regarding work, attitude and behaviour.

Behaviour Behaviour expectations are high and are reflected in the school policy. This is in line with the Catholic Ethos and Christian values of Saint Cadoc’s Primary School. House System – Mr Fogg/Miss Lynch and some of the House Captains will explain more about our revamped system at their stand. 4

Literacy and Language Areas of Literacy– reading, writing, grammar, spelling, talking and listening. Literacy skills are taught as a discrete subject and further developed through inter-disciplinary opportunities (Topic research, Drama, Health and Wellbeing, etc.) 5

Numeracy and Mathematics Mental Maths Number and Number Processes, Problem Solving, Measure, Shape and Data Handling. PLEASE HELP YOUR CHILD LEARN MULTIPLICATION TABLES BY HEART AT HOME AS WELL AS IN SCHOOL ! 6

Homework Homework will be given out on a Monday and should be returned on a Friday. Homework should take a maximum of 25 minutes each night. After 25 minutes a night, STOP!!! Homework will include; Reading Spelling Mental Maths 7

Religious Education R.E is taught through the This is Our Faith document Lessons and experiences are made relevant to the lives of the chidren Lessons are linked to the liturgical year Other world religions will be covered throughout the year At Mass try to encourage and help your child to learn responses and prayers 8

Health and Wellbeing PE - This term PE for Primary 5b will take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays outdoors. The topics covered in Health/Wellbeing lessons include; healthy eating and lifestyle, the importance of physical activity and emotional and mental wellbeing. 9

Gym Clothes Gym will be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays . Children must wear appropriate gym clothes to allow them to make the most of these lessons. 10

Finally… Communication should be through the home school diary. Please feel free to have a look around our classroom. We will have a chance to discuss your child’s individual progress in October at Parents’ Night. Thank You 12
