Room 15 News & Notes August 27 – 31, 2018 Mrs. Nakamura hnakamura@slusd.us https://www.sanleandro.k12.ca.us/Domain/109 (Go to Teacher Pages) Tomorrow, Aug. 28th, we will have early dismissal at 1:50pm. Learning Academy notifications went home last Thursday. If you did not get one, that means your child does not need Learning Academy. Learning Academy starts today, and will be every day from 2:10-3:00, except for Wednesdays. Homework starts today. Homework is a weekly packet that is passed out Monday and due on Friday. Spelling words will be given out next week with the homework. Spelling tests will be every Friday. MATH: We are now moving into Module 3 (we are skipping Module 2 for now). We will be learning about place value: ones, tens, hundreds. We will draw bundles of straws to represent each of these place values (1 straw for ones, a skinny cluster of straws for tens, and large cluster of straws for hundreds). We will learn how to count quickly from one given number to another given number (ie. What’s the fastest way to count from 164 to 350?). ELA: Comprehension skill this week: ask and answer questions. I will read a non-fiction/informational text called “Meet the Artists”, which talks about kids who have special talents in the performing arts. I will show the kids how to pause in their reading to ask questions, and to listen to/look for the answers. We will also write about a special talent we have, or wish we had. Sight Words: play, some, where, was, they EARLY DISMISSAL @ 1:50pm on Tues., Aug. 28th. NO SCHOOL on Mon. Sept. 3rd (Labor Day holiday). BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT will be on Thurs., Sept. 13th.
