Essential Question Explain at least THREE achievements of the Second New Deal AND how they effect America?

Economy improved in 1st two years of FDR, but not very much FDR launches second wave of reforms called – Second New Deal= designed to help poor people Eleanor Roosevelt= traveled the country speaking to average citizens and reported back to her husband about their conditions

1936 election FDR wins in another landslide  1st time many blacks vote Democrat, labor unions support one person Works Progress Administration (WPA)= agency set out to create jobs ASAP: got millions to build airports, roads, libraries, schools, hospitals It employed teachers, writers, actors, and artists, with special effort to help women & minorities National Youth Administration= gave aid & part-time work to high school and college students so they could get education

Second New Deal reformed labor Wagner Act= supported workers’ right to collective bargaining, banned unfair labor practices Led to max hours, 44 a week, and minimum wage for 1st time, banned child labor in factories

Social Security Act= very important achievements of New Deal Social Security Act= very important achievements of New Deal. Has 3 parts: Old-age insurance- supplemental retirement plan that provided funds from what workers and employers paid into the system Unemployment compensation- payments to workers who lost their jobs Aid to disabled and families with kids- this helped people who could not be expected to work
