Unit 9

Have you put as much thought into the characteristics of the form and medium as you have in the research of your theme?

What are the characteristics of your chosen mediums or forms? What makes something a poem; what makes something a documentary; what makes something a short story; what makes something a news feature/article, a theatre [piece an monologue a short film, genre conventions, skills and techniques needed to craft etc… What processes do you go through to create your piece: a character study, research into theme, a setting study, decluttering, crafting, specificity, showing and not telling, adhering to genre conventions, plotting, finding listen-to-me-words?

Discussion: sharing information Discuss in two or threes the characteristics of your chosen piece. Discuss your theme and the research especially any sources that have helped: books, websites, films, documentaries, radio dramas, poets etc… Identify the characteristics and share with group. Do you all agree; has anyone mentioned something you had forgotten. How has this helped your ideas for writing and chosen media e.g. radio and poem Discuss and justify your choices Report this as part of your preparation, planning and research.
