EQUALITY JYOTI Assistant Professor Department of Political Science PGGC-11 Chandigarh.

Modern democracy is based on the twin principles of Liberty and Equality. Liberty and Equality both are essential for the establishment of social justice. The real meaning of equality is not natural but social equality. There should be no privileged class in the society which for fulfilling their objectives uses the State power.

Characteristics of Equality Equality is a general levelling process Equality is absence of privileges Equality implies presence of equal opportunities for all Equality means equal satisfaction of basic needs
