Communication Is the process of conveying information in such a way that the message is received & understood.

Verbal Communication Involves use of words Includes: Speakers Listeners Writers Readers

Think: are hearing and listening the same? Think-Pair-Share Think: are hearing and listening the same? Pair & Share

Sounds: What do you hear? What do you Listen to? Radios Instruction Appliances Conversations Cars Airplanes Directions

Barriers of good listening Ignoring-by habit or choice Forgetting-studies show people remember as little as 25% of what they receive through the day!!! Misunderstanding-mispronunciation, slang, tone

How to be a “good” Listener Be an “active listener” Give feedback (can be verbal or non-verbal) Don’t be a “passive listener” Listens but doesn’t respond
