R E S P C T What are some of the consequences of disrespect – for individuals, communities, and societies? Describe the most difficult part of being respectful. How can one’s tone of voice respect or disrespect? In 1999, US teenagers under age 18 were involved in 9% of murder arrests, 14% of aggravated assault arrests, 33% of burglary arrests, 25% of robbery arrests, 24% of weapons arrests. Why are some teens involved in these activities? What are the pressures on teens to engage in criminal behavior? What do you think could be done about these problems?

Respect: Point of View Write down a few thoughts for each question below, and then choose one for which you will fully express your point of view: How can you show respect for someone you strongly disagree with about something that is very important to both of you? Give examples and discuss why this is so difficult. What are some ways that we justify disrespecting a person or groups of people? Why do we do that? What is the best way to deal with situations where one feels completely disrespected by someone else. Include a list of steps students can take to resolve conflicts peacefully.
