Monitoring & Evaluating Higher PE

Purpose Performance Development is a process where you take actions to improve a given skill. You need to reflect what you have done and consider what needs to be done next to achieve your goal. These reflections should be written down – RECORDED. This record then becomes a resource to help the monitoring and evaluation process. Each Steps: What you did How long you did it for When you did it Where you did it How it felt

Monitoring As you go along you should clearly see: What you did last What you should do next The progress you are making How to stay motivated and focused Monitoring needs to be: Regular – done after each training session Systematic – recorded logically in an organised way This allows you to: Take appropriate action on the next step Be confident that adaptations are based on judgements and not just opinions

Focused Observation Schedule Benefits METHOD OF FEEDBACK BENEFITS Training Diaries This is a permanent record that you can look back on at any time You can make comparisons between each session you have completed to mark improvement Having a record of your improvement can improve your motivation to train Video Analysis This method allows you to fast forward, rewind and watch your performance at a speed that best suits you It is also a permanent record you can look back on Focused Observation Schedule This method allows you to compare your performance against a model performer Again you can watch your performance at the speed that suits you You again have a permanent record you can refer back to or use to make comparison

METHOD OF FEEDBACK BENEFIT Teacher Feedback - Verbal You can receive high quality feedback off someone who has a very good knowledge of the game You can record any feedback you receive in your training diary It is immediate. The feedback is given then and there. Peer Feedback – Written Permanent record Completed by someone who is objective Peer Feedback - Verbal Again it is immediate Someone is watching your performance from a distance so can see the whole picture It is objective

Evaluating Evaluating relates to the judgements you make at the end of your Performance Development Programme. At this stage you may complete your recording with an overall summary about how effective you PDP was at improving your development need. This judgement will also help you plan for the future. It should include: How effective were the approaches used Was it interesting and motivating If you struggled to make progress why? Were you challenged or bored Evaluation is vital for the process to be worthwhile

Methods There are many different methods to help store the information gathered during the monitoring and evaluation phase Training diary Self reflections (journal) Questionnaires Coach feedback records Observation schedules Standardised tests League tables Ranking or classification This data can be quantitative or qualitative but it would be worthwhile using both as it means there while be an all-round accurate, detailed picture of performance

Exam Questions Describe one method used to monitor performance development? (4marks) Compare the work completed at the start of your development programme compared to the end of the plan? (4marks) Explain the importance of monitoring your personal development plan? (4marks) Analyse the evidence that your monitoring methods made it necessary to change and adapt your personal development plan? (4marks) Evaluate the progress you made on completion of your development plan? (4marks)
