Welcome to Key Stage One’s Reading and Phonics Meeting
Why are we here? To show you how we teach reading and phonics in school. To demonstrate how you can best support your child at home.
Is reading like this in your house? I know we’re late. Hurry up! Eat your cereal and read that book! I can’t concentrate! It’s far too noisy!
Top tips to make reading easier Routine – find a good regular time No distractions 1-1 time – take turns if necessary A little often – 10 minutes a day Make it fun – a pleasurable experience for everyone Use pure sounds and encourage your child to sound out and blend the words – please ask if you’re not sure. If it’s not working – rethink, talk to us. Try to find time to read to your child as well.
