Fig. 1 Kaplan-Meier plot showing the proportion of the initially 105 Bangladeshi patients remaining free of H. pylori infection after eradication therapy (time 0). DNA typing showed that all 15 patients who became H. pylori–positive within the first 3 months after therapy were infected with the same strain of H. pylori (treatment failure or recrudescence). All patients testing positive between 3 and 18 months were truly reinfected with a different strain of H. pylori, whereas genomic typing was not available in patients reinfected after 18 months.
