Welcome Parents of Class 5A

TEACHING AND LEARNING APPROACH Class, team, individual Team building activities Collaborative learning

WHY USE THIS APPROACH? When students are engaged in the learning process: They pay attention and concentrate They are motivated They learn more and develop social skills They interact and learn from each other; not only from the teacher

TEAM BUILDING Students will change seats every month and will rotate within the teams This helps students: feel included and appreciated by classmates and teachers be actively involved in their own learning have positive expectations from others that they will succeed learn the value of working and cooperating with others

GENERAL INFORMATION Please be prompt. Lessons begin at 8:15. Follow dress code. Make sure hair is tidy. Please be organized. Students should prepare their school bag from the night before. All textbooks and exercise books to be kept at school unless needed for homework. Homework should be returned the following day. Books should be kept neat and tidy.

TABLETS Students will be using their tablets at school and will use it for homework, projects and interactive learning Students should make sure that their tablets are fully charged on a daily basis Students must take care of their tablets

HOMEWORK All homework assigned is expected back the following school day, unless stated otherwise. Tasks assigned on websites such as Education City, Night Zookeeper are expected to be completed by the due date. “Homework column” on board – students are expected to copy their h/w from the board but can also double check on the class website.

TESTS, QUIZZES AND GRADES Tests in certain subjects after each concept has been taught. You will be notified a week in advance. Sometimes there will be quizzes without prior warning based on material covered and after the appropriate drilling in class. Grades are based on class participation, effort, homework completion, enthusiasm, presentation of work, class projects, tests and quizzes.

LIBRARY Students will go to the library once a week (Mondays, 3rd period). Students are expected to read their library books. Students are encouraged to read on a daily basis. Students may be asked to do an oral or written book report from time to time on the book they have chosen from the library.
