UNC Modification Proposal 0202 National Grid Distribution “Improvement to More Frequent Readings Provisions to allow benefits of AMR” Distribution Workstream – 27 March 2008 Phil Lucas

Aims of Modification Proposal 0202 In respect of Smaller Supply Points flagged as ‘non-domestic’: Increase the maximum read frequency (for submission to the Transporter) from one every 63 days, to one every 27 days To allow the submission of readings procured from AMR equipment installed at I&C Supply Points Allows co-ordination of Users read submission frequency for all I&C Supply Points

Issues Transporters system change required to enable acceptance of more frequent readings: requires validation against I&C flag – reliability of such data? adds an additional frequency Discussions between National Grid Distribution and Corona (Proposer) Identified an alternative, more flexible solution

Alternative Proposal Amend UNC to enable a User to elect a Smaller Supply Point with AMR installed as a Monthly Read Meter User opts to install AMR equipment at an NDM Supply Meter Point User elects to submit monthly reads to DNO User submits SPA file (Nom/Conf or Supply Point Amendment) to set MRF to ‘M’ User ‘warrants’ that AMR kit is installed, operational and readings procured from the AMR will be sent to the DNO

Points to Note User able to submit one read every 14 days – i.e. meets the aspirations of MP 0202 User subject to UNC Monthly read provisions (including ‘must read’ terms) Less significant system change for the Transporter Change managed within existing number of frequency parameters Does not require use of I&C/domestic designator flag Funding of change – User Pays?
