The Church’s One Foundation *Opening Hymn The Church’s One Foundation Hymnal #545 Used By Permission. CCLI License # 11148194
The church's one foundation is Jesus Christ her Lord; she is his new creation by water and the Word.
From heaven he came and sought her to be his holy bride; with his own blood he bought her, and for her life he died.
Elect from every nation, yet one o'er all the earth; her charter of salvation, one Lord, one faith, one birth;
one holy name she blesses, partakes one holy food, and to one hope she presses, with every grace endued.
Though with a scornful wonder we see her sore oppressed, by schisms rent asunder, by heresies distressed,
yet saints their watch are keeping; their cry goes up, "How long?" And soon the night of weeping shall be the morn of song.
Mid toil and tribulation, and tumult of her war, she waits the consummation of peace forevermore;
till, with the vision glorious, her longing eyes are blest, and the great church victorious shall be the church at rest.
Yet she on earth hath union with God the Three in One, and mystic sweet communion with those whose rest is won.
O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we like them, the meek and lowly, on high may dwell with thee.
*Opening Prayer Dear God, the violence, turmoil and unrest in our world and nation is breaking our hearts. You know our sinful nature, how we fall prey to anguish and anxiety, fears and heartbreak. We hand these centuries’ old struggles to you.
We give to you ourselves, our friends and enemies, bystanders and activists, participants, perpetrators and protectors. Gather us in. Bind up our hearts. Give to us clear directions and the courage to follow your directions. Be rooted in us such that no storm, no situation, no human craziness
or ill can uproot us. Keep our eyes and hearts ever on you and your will that we may truly love all neighbors be they friends, enemies, activists, bystanders, participants, perpetrators or protectors. Your will be done. May your kingdom come here on earth, as it is in Heaven. Amen.

Scripture Reading Luke 11: 1-4 He was praying in a certain place, and after he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” 2 He said to them, “When you pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come.3 Give us each day our daily bread.4 And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone indebted to us. And do not bring us to the time of trial.”
Scripture Reading Colossians 2:6-10 6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, continue to live your lives in him, 7 rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.8 See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the universe,
Scripture Reading Colossians 2:6-10 6and not according to Christ. 9 For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, 10 and you have come to fullness in him, who is the head of every ruler and authority.
Sermon Be Rooted and Built Up
Apostles’ Creed (Hymnal #881) I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
Apostles’ Creed (Hymnal #881) I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Pass it On *Hymn Hymnal #572 Used By Permission. CCLI License # 11148194
It only takes a spark to get a fire going, and soon all those around can warm up in its glowing.
That’s how it is with God’s love once you’ve experienced it; you spread his love to everyone; you want to pass it on.
What a wondrous time is spring, when all the trees are budding; the birds begin to sing, the flowers start their blooming.
That’s how it is with God’s love once you’ve experienced it; you wan to sing, it’s fresh like spring, you want to pass it on.
I wish for you, my friend, this happiness that I’ve found; you can depend on him, it matters not where you’re bound.
I’ll shout it from the mountain top; I want my world to know; the Lord of love has come to me, I want to pass it on.
