Gum counting Lab

Bellwork 015 Get out your science composition notebook and turn to the next blank page. Title the page “Gum Counting Lab” Write down the following problems: Mr. Mac is wanting to know if desks in the back of the class has more gum. He also wants to know what color of gum is the most popular. Now re-write the problem in question format (How does…….. Affect……)

Problem Mr. Mac is wanting to know if desks in the back of the class has more gum. He also wants to know what color of gum is the most popular.

Question How does……. Affect……. How does desk position affect how many pieces of gum is attached to the bottom of the desk? How does the color of gum affect the popularity?

Form a Hypothesis If…… Then…..

Materials List the materials needed Desk with gum

Make a Table Desk number How many pieces of gum 1 2 3 … …. 29 Average There are 29 desks. So number 1-29 on the desk number

Make a Table Color of gum How many pieces of gum Percentage of gum

Test the Hypothesis Write down your procedures. Record how many pieces of gum are under your desk. Record the color of gum under your desk.

Finding average and percentage Find the average for how many pieces of gum are under the desk. Add up all the pieces of gum and divide by how may desks there are. Find the percentage for each color of gum. Take the color and divide by how many pieces you have total. EX: I have 4 pieces of green gum and 11 pieces of gum total. 4/11 = .36 x 100 = 36%

Make Graph Make a graphs Bar graph for the first one. Pie graph for the second one.

Analyze Data and Draw Conclusions Review the data that you collected during your experiment! Look for patterns that look similar or different. In the conclusion, include: Restate your hypothesis State whether the hypothesis was supported or not supported. Summarize the experiment
