Ms. Hovious’ 1st Grade Week of: January 22nd, 2019 Winter Carnival Friday, January 25th Thanks to all who have donated towards our basket! This Friday we will conclude our penguin unit with a special Penguin Day. It would be appreciated if each student could bring a small basket Friday that will be used to carry their baby penguin egg that day :) This week we will begin double digit subtraction. The students are really enjoying this unit. You can practice double digit addition and subtraction at home on white boards, any paper and even trying to do it mentally! This week in reading we will read Frog and Toad Together and work on inflected endings -ed and -ing as well as the controlled r. We will work on retelling the plot and strategies visualizing the text. This week we will discuss Groundhog Day and also complete a winter writing unit. We will discuss winter weather and what our senses can explore during the winter months. We are still working out of Lucy Calkins Informational Writing Unit.
