Presentation transcript:

MATHS As mathematicians, we will be focusing on time and using our knowledge to create clocks. We will be ordering events to create timelines about the world’s most important inventions. We will also be creating bar charts to show how popular and how many people use different inventions within our school on a daily basis. This is in addition to our daily maths lessons. ENGLISH As writers, we will be studying a variety of texts to support our topic of inventors and their inventions: ‘Rosie Revere Engineer’ by Andrea Beaty, ‘Izzy Gizmo’ by Pip Jones and Sara Oglilvie, ‘Until I Met Dudley’ by Roger McGough and Chris Riddell and ‘The Most Magnificent Thing’ by Ashley Spires. From these texts we will be writing for a range of purposes. We will be writing instructions, setting descriptions, letters and stories. Alongside this we will continue to work on how we form our sentences to add variety and develop interest. READING As readers, we will be looking at a wide range of fiction and non-fiction texts, many of these linked to our theme work. We will be enhancing our skills at making inferences and picking out vital information from texts. We will also be looking at writing formal written answers to questions about the texts. HISTORY As historians, we will be looking at whether certain inventions have changed the world that we live in. We will be looking at what we think are the top three inventions in the world. We will be researching to find out who invented these items and how they transformed through the ages. We will also be carrying out a focused study on what Britain was like when the Anglo-Saxons and Scots settled here. Eureka! Year 4 Term 1 DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY As designers, we will be investigating clocks and looking in the mechanisms of a clock and how they work. We will be creating potato clocks and even designing and creating our own clocks. GEOGRAPHY As geographers, we will be working on our map skills. We will be finding different countries and areas of the world that we haven’t looked at before and investigate technology in different countries and considering if we use the same technology as people on the other side of the world. P.E. As athletes we will be cracking codes and solving problems. We will be learning the art of orienteering and working together as a team. Please ensure that your child has a full PE kit, including trousers and trainers as we may be outside. SCIENCE As scientists we will be looking at how electricity works. We will be creating a range of different simple circuits and then adding in new barriers, such as switches, to create more advanced circuits. We will also be investigating which everyday objects work well as conductors. THE WIDER CURRICULUM This term we have a number of exciting events happening in school: Health and Wellbeing week: Year 4 will be looking at how to maintain a healthy and well-balanced diet. We will also be looking at which activities have a positive or a negative reaction on our health. British History Week w/b 1st October: We will be looking at Britain's settlement by Anglo-Saxons and Scots. PARENT EVENT – 10th October from 2pm. Come to our very own Dragon’s Den! Class trip – We are going to We The Curious on the 16th October.
