How do you measure segments? Chapter 1 Section 1.5 How do you measure segments?

Warm up Complete page 30 1- 6, 15 - 20

Congruent Congruent Figures have the same shape and size Congruent Segments have the same length If DE=GH then E H D G

Do these figures appear to be congruent? 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Length Distance from one point to another point Subtract the coordinates of the points Distance must ALWAYS be positive Do the larger-smaller to get a positive answer OR take the absolute value of the distance

Length Find the length of MN and NP Are they congruent? M N P -5 -4 -3 -2 -1 1 2 3 4 5

Postulate 1-6: Segment Addition Postulate If B is between A and C then AB+BC=AC. A B C

Example If DT = 60, and DS = 2x – 8, and ST = 3x – 12, find: 1) x 2) DS and ST D S T

Classwork On the notecard, come up with an example similar to the previous example. Exchange your problem with a partner and solve each others problems. Give the card back to the original person and have them check it.

Midpoint of a Segment The point that divides the segment in 2 congruent segments. Get the length of the segment and then divide it in half. If I have a segment that is 8 inches long, where would the midpoint be? What if it was 3 inches long?

Example C is the midpoint of AB. Find AC, CB and AB.
