Elements of Art: Line, Color, Value Principles of Art: Movement 6th Grade Op Art Elements of Art: Line, Color, Value Principles of Art: Movement

Directions 1. Divide your 9x9 paper in half with a curvy line. 2. Make 6-8 dots, unevenly spaced on your line. 3. Connect the dots with curved lines. (the lines from the dots at each end should go off the paper, not back down to the line)

Directions Cont 4. From each of these curved lines, build up a column of more curved lines (or rings)stacked on top of each other. Build one complete column at a time across the top half of your paper. If your columns start to slant or get taller or larger all the better! It’s easies to develop every other column and then connect the spaces in between. (when you connect the in between columns make sure each ring that you add connects at the ends to the one below it.)

Directions Cont 5. When the top half of your paper is finished, spin your paper around and complete steps 3&4 until your entire paper is filled and all of your columns are connected. 6. Go over your lines in a thin sharpie & erase all pencil lines. 7. Finally choose a COLOR SCHEME (review your color notes: Complimentary, Monochromatic, Warm & Cool, Analogous). Color in each of your rings & columns pressing harder on the sides and lighter in the middle to give it more of a 3D look.

Examples Complimentary Cool Colors Warm & Cool

Criteria for Success Create an Op Art design made of columns of rings that connect to the ring below it. Create an Op Art drawing that shows a specific color scheme being used to enhance the design. Outline your design in sharpie. Use Value (light and dark) within each of the colors to help create movement/ look 3D. Excellent craftsmanship- Attention to detail.
