From paralysis to power 15/04/2019 Eva Musby From paralysis to power  How you can support parents so they can support their child 13:45 to 15:30 on Sat 26 Feb 2015, SEDIG, Edinburgh Title: Compassion on a plate: tools to give your child powerful support while sustaining yourself Speaker: Eva Musby, Parent and author of Anorexia and other eating disorders - how to help your child eat well and be well" Time: 13:45 to 15:30 Description: The aim of this practical 1 hr 45 session is to help you support your child with effective kindness, while also increasing your resilience. I will demonstrate principles inspired from mindfulness, nonviolent communication, and family-based treatment, using the example of a child's resistance during a meal. You can sit and watch, or you can take part and try out some scenarios. My hope is that you will go home feeling empowered, ready to respond skilfully to your child’s needs, and trusting that you have the resources to keep moving forward. Bad Stuff 15/04/2019 2:00pm Why all this focus on compassion? Two places your mind can be when bad stuff happens (real or perceived bad stuff) Limbic area of brain: closes down, makes you reactive and less able to think – only useful to help zebra get away from lion. Same for your child. www.evamusby.co.uk www.evamusby.co.uk
