BLOOD DIAMONDS

FACTS!!! Conflict diamonds represent 4% of the total trade in rough diamonds. Others estimate that conflict diamonds could amount as high as 15% of the total diamond trade. In 2001, the diamond industry produced rough diamonds with a market value of $7.9 billion. At the end of the diamond chain, this was converted into jewelry worth $54.1 billion. Around 65% of world’s diamonds ($8,4 billion), are from Africa.

Mirny Diamond Mine, Siberia It is the biggest dimond mine in the world Mirny Diamond Mine, Siberia It is the biggest dimond mine in the world. It’s 525 meters deep and a 1200 meters in diameter.

Big Hole from kimberley - Sudáfrica It seems to be the biggest hand-cave excavation in the world. This 1097 meters deep mine, produced over 3 tons of diamonds before it was shut down in 1914. It is estimated that the total amount of soil removed by the workers is about 22.5 millions tons.

THE PROBLEM!!! Conflict diamonds are diamonds that originate from areas controlled by forces or factions opposed to legitimate and internationally recognized governments, and are used to fund military action in opposition to those governments, or in contravention of the decisions of the Security Council

Conflict diamonds are used to fuel civil wars. Conflict diamonds lead to human suffering. The traffic in diamonds has left a trail of carnage, while they may seem a symbol of happiness, the reality of the gems is far from that

THE SOLUTION!!! Proposal # 1 Fundraising for Programs: - Car washes - Food sales - Clothing sales - Donations

Proposal # 2 Raise Blood Diamond Awareness: - Attractive flyers - Speeches - Rallies - Educational classes

Proposal # 3 Send Troops to Africa: - This WOULD NOT be like the war in Iraq. - This would HELP to free the governments from all the suffering and make it more stable.
