WSAC Updates ·         elimination of the Engineering Tech MRP /pre-nursing mrp/ up next ·         General WSAC updates (adult reengagement, new staff on dual credit and ACPL) ·         ACPL report update ·         Transfer report update ·          Overview of HB 1488 – College Bound Scholarship now open to students who meet HB 1079; students with expired DACA can now get in-state tuition  - ICRC Fall 2018

Our mission Policy and research Savings and financial aid programs Access and support programs Consumer protection Washington Student Achievement Council

WSAC policy and research Attainment goals System and workforce needs Student transition policies Attainment goals – adults aged 25-44, year 2023. 100% and 70%. We’re at 90% and 52% as of 2015. Washington Student Achievement Council

WSAC and student transition RCW 28B.77.210: The council shall adopt statewide transfer and articulation policies that ensure efficient transfer of credits and courses across public two and four-year institutions of higher education. Transfer degrees Umbrella policy (and others) ICRC handbook (course lists) Collaborate with schools “The intent of the policies is to create a statewide system of articulation and alignment between two and four-year institutions of higher education. Policies may address but are not limited to creation of a statewide system of course equivalency, creation of transfer associate degrees, statewide articulation agreements, applicability of technical courses toward baccalaureate degrees, and other issues. ” 28B.77.220 requires transfer report every odd year. Washington Student Achievement Council

DTA/MRP reviews Complete Business Active Pre-Nursing Upcoming Computer Science Nursing Eliminated Technology Engineering Technology (soon) Business DTA/MRP (presented last time, but slight change) Primary change was in electives area: 5 credits of non-business electives changed to 5 credits of general electives Next review Summer 2022 UW Foster School – MATH& 146 no longer meets stats/q methods pre-req. It will be accepted through Fall 2019 admissions. (must meet UW’s QMETH 201 or STAT 311) Washington Student Achievement Council

Pre-Nursing DTA/MRP SUGGESTIONS Replace 5 cr. stats with10 cr. QSR Keep 5 cr. Public Speaking Add 5 cr. diversity-focused social science (non-psych) Pre-Nursing DTA/MRP Group was considering changing it to a broader health sciences degree to prep for several 4 year majors, but feedback from 4 years was that this degree, even with slight changes, would not meet all majors’ requirements Sticking with Pre-Nursing DTA/MRP so that we continue to have 2 tracks for transfer students Still issues w/numbers Out of the 456 13/14 Pre-Nursing DTA/MRP grads, 81 (18%) enrolled at a public baccalaureate institution (not including CTC BAS or BSN degrees) at some point after earning their degree and before Summer 2016. 30% enrolled in a BSN program and 22% enrolled in a health sciences or psych degree. (note this data is from MRTE, which does not have the latest #s of graduates – Joyce’s #s say 465 grads) How can we ensure that students who don’t get into nursing programs continue their education in something else? Primary changes/discussions 10 credits QSR (stats + college alg, pre-calc, or logic) Keeping 5 credits in public speaking (it’s under Humanities section since it is a Speech/Comm Studies course) Updated courses that have changed names since 2004 Under soc sci, added 5 credits of soc sci outside of psych that has a diversity focus Next steps Feedback from all institutions, including any advising notes, and will go through the ‘process’ (which was just updated) Washington Student Achievement Council

Median credits to bachelor’s degree Transfer report Median credits to bachelor’s degree Direct entry Transfer with DTA/MRP Transfer with generic DTA CTC transfer without degree Other transfer In addition to reporting on the # of students completing each DTA/MRP, report will show credits to degree for 14/15 and 15/16 bachelor’s degree earners for these groups (goes deeper than Role of Transfer report) Some might also include AST-1 or 2 depending on bachelor’s area Will look at bachelor’s areas associated with our MRPs. Includes: Bio Business Nursing Engineering If time, will also include 17 other metrics that each point to a policy objective and research question. They will focus on: Student pathway choices Transfer trends over time Effect of attending multiple institutions Reverse articulation Examples: Graduation rates for direct entry and transfer students. Proportion of students with intent to transfer who actually transfer. Proportion of students who earn bachelor’s degree in same area as transfer degree. Proportion of bachelor’s degree earners who are direct entry vs. transfer. What questions do you have about WA transfer students? Washington Student Achievement Council
