What is the Leadership Studies Minor (LSM)? Coached integrative learning and competency development that compliments and enhances the student’s major thru experiential education.

Leadership Studies Continuum of Experiential Leadership Meta-Curriculum

What is the Minor Specifically? A 12-credit hour curriculum Honors curriculum requires 13-credit hours Highlights ethical, intercultural, civic, and communication dimensions of leadership Heavy focus on self-awareness and self-authorship Explores leadership concepts and theories, experience in collegiate leadership, and application to post-collegiate settings Compliments student’s major(s) and other academic leadership programs (majors and minors)

Student benefits Clearly articulated Leadership Statement, Vision, and Career-Ready Skill Set Capstone Project self-directed or faculty-coached Personalized leadership development plan (60+ hours) 1-1 Leadership Coaching supports student in creating all of the above

Who is eligible? Students from all undergraduate majors Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors may register for ELPS 201, no permissions required (Not Seniors) Honors Leadership Program (HLP) selection occurs during admission only Must be registered for ELPS classes to stay in the LLC Only HLP students can take ELPS 217 2nd Semester Juniors or Seniors can, but……. This is a scaffolded developmental curriculum with pre/co-requisites Requires at least 3 consecutive terms (i.e., can’t take all classes in one or two terms) Complete 201 and 350 before spring Junior year or Plan to delay graduation to complete the minor

coursework 3-Credit Hours – Elective Options 12-Credit Hours – Required Courses ELPS 201 (3) ELPS 350 (2) ELPS 351 (Register for 2) ELPS 451 (1) ELPS 452 (1) or an approved faculty- led capstone project course 3-Credit Hours – Elective Options ALEC 202 ALEC 303 ELPS 211 ELPS 310 Additional ELPS 350 (no more than 6 hours accepted) ELPS 493 ELPS 495 ENT 410 HEAM 455 PSYC 435 PYED 246 We will consider a petition from the student for a course to be counted as an elective that meets our learning objectives – enhancing ethical, intercultural, communications, or leadership knowledge

Declaring the leadership studies minor Students complete these requirements during ELPS 351 Credit Hour. Apply to the minor after completing ELPS 201, 350, and 351 Application Packet: Complete LSM Application Grade of B or Better in ELPS 201 & 350 Provide a Link to Application Portfolio Capstone Project Proposal Personal VVM Statement of Problem Literature Review Bullets VVM Strategic Plan Capstone Strategic Plan Updated VolLink Service Hours  

Keys to successful LSM Advising Students may take the ELPS 201, 350, and 351 courses without declaring the Leadership Studies minor. Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors may register for ELPS 201, no permissions required (Not Seniors) Students can contract for ELPS 207 credit. ELPS 217 is only available to HLP students (right now.) Pre-and Co-Requisites 201.207 and 350 351; 351 is a pre-req 451, 451 452/457 Traditional Path to completing the minor Completed ELPS 201/207 and 350 prior to or during Spring Junior Year Complete ELPS 351 during Spring the year before Graduation (offered only in Spring) Capstone and 2 credit hours can be a faculty-led class required by their major (ex. Senior design) GCM 3 courses can be taken without declaring the minor Permission is not need for freshmen, sophomores, and juniors to take ELPS 201 Honors by contract is available for ELPS 207. Pre/co-requisites Traditional path for completing the minor The capstone and 2 credit hours can be a faculty-led class required by major

Honors Leadership Program FYI’s Banner Registration in ELPS 207, 217, 457 requires students to have declared the honors minor. Student can register for these if their banner profile is accurate. Remember to reattach the LS minor indicator to a student profile if you make changes. You can add LSM back to the profile if the student is an Honors Leadership Program (HLP) student. Course Load Concerns Significantly less annual credit hours after 1st year Do not conflate LSM-H and HLP requirements Students can graduate with the LSM-H even if they drop the HLP
