Evidence for inheritance of medullary sponge kidney David S. Goldfarb  Kidney International  Volume 83, Issue 2, Pages 193-196 (February 2013) DOI: 10.1038/ki.2012.417 Copyright © 2013 International Society of Nephrology Terms and Conditions

Figure 1 Coronal section, computed tomography, without radiocontrast, of a patient with medullary sponge kidney, demonstrated by intravenous pyelogram (not shown). The study shows diffuse hyperdensity of all the papillae with some small bilateral concretions, a typical picture of nephrocalcinosis. However, this study can only be suggestive, not diagnostic, of MSK, as contrast was not administered. (Picture courtesy of Professor F.M. Danza, School of Medicine, Catholic University, Rome, Italy.)
