OH SHSP Steering Committee Mtg_Jan. 2019 Licensing Committee - 2018 Outcomes BMV forms: Physician Statement – standardized, available online Law Enforcement Reporting Form – available on LEADS, can now be emailed Citizen Advisement Letter - revised with user friendly language Driver Orientation Screen for Cognitive Impairment (DOSCI) law enforcement program Stark County Safe Communities pilot project BMV Forms Physician Statement - now online, confidential submission when filled out completely will automatically trigger a medical case confidential submission; LEADS (Law Enforcement Automated Data System) Law enforcement, courts, and prosecutors can query on driving records, vehicle ownership, stolen property, missing persons, warrants, and parole status. Driver’s license images and criminal histories can also be viewed. Citizen Advisement letter - notifies sender of BMV customer’s rights (notification someone has submitted a letter about their driving) and requests confirmation that they still want an investigation to take place Stark County DOSCI program pilot project – Plans developed and partners lined up, waiting on approval from Highway Patrol HQ ORU Licensing Group Activities
OH SHSP Steering Committee Mtg_Jan. 2019 Licensing Committee - 2019 Activities Meet more frequently, broaden participation Simplify Physician Statement and require physician’s license # Develop training for license examiners on detecting potential medical impairments that can affect driving ability Address limits for number of retests given to previously licensed drivers with medical issues Meetings – and ensure committee participation includes representatives from the BMV and Patrol Physician Statement form – 2018 fix didn’t solve all the issues (its longer and must be completed in full; if partial same as Citizen Advisement letter), need simpler form for physicians to complete but has to be filled out completely to be deemed confidential and. If incomplete, treated same as a referral letter (BMV will enter info into database and resends a letter to Doctor to complete.) Driver License Examiner Training – To assist in preparing license examiners for the variety of persons they are seeing including with medical issues (including use of adaptive driving equipment) Number of retests - This is new info from last meeting – in researching the # of retests given to previously licensed drivers with medical issues, versus the number given to novice/first time licensed drivers they learned that there is no limit in statute or policy for retesting – any driver can keep taking the test indefinitely ORU Licensing Group Activities
