WHAT IS CYBER CRIME? Cyber Crime Against Law Of The Land Computer Internet Intentionally to harm…. Person / Individual Property / Organization Government

WHY DO WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CYBER CRIME? To create awareness about Cyber Crime. To know about types of Cyber Crime. How to protect ourselves against such crimes. How to protect our own children, family members and school students from such crimes. To know about Netiquettes.

Weakness In Computer System, Firewall, Antivirus etc. WHO ARE INVOLVED? SUSPECTS / VICTIMS Disgruntled Employees. Teenagers / Friends. Political Activist. Professional Hackers. Business Rivals. Suspecting Spouse. Greedy People. Gullible. Unskilled and Inexperienced. Unlucky People. Weakness In Computer System, Firewall, Antivirus etc.

MODUS OPERANDI – CYBER CRIME Cyber Crime is done single handedly. No Physical Presence. Remote location. Nearly impossible to identify the criminal. Hence, difficult to punish by law. Cyber laws are still incapable of handling and matching the speed of the cyber criminals. WHY IS IT DONE? Anger / Revenge / Sake of fun / at times unknowingly. Too many Tech Toys available. Attention seekers to satisfy their egos.

TYPES OF CYBER CRIMES Hacking Morphing Denial of Service Attack Virus Dissemination Software Piracy Credit Card Fraud NET Extortion Phishing Cyber Stalking Cyber Defamation Cyber Bullying Threatening Child Abuse Morphing Cyber Fights Plagiarism Fake Profile & objectionable comments, offensive and illegal comments. Trolling Identity thefts (Smart Phones) Data Diddling Computer Vandalism E-Commerce Distribution of Pornography

Many of these crimes such as are related to Facebook. Cyber Stalking Cyber Defamation Cyber Bullying Child Abuse Morphing Cyber Fights Fake Profile Trolling Identity Thefts Distribution of Pornography are related to Facebook.

SYMPTOMS OF INFECTED CHILD Withdrawal from Family & Friends. Mood Swings. Loss of appetite / sleep. Physical lethargicness. Decline in Academics. Techphobia. Being nervous when getting new e-mails, Facebook Likes & Comments. Maintaining secrets in their Cyber life.

WHAT A SCHOOL SHOULD DO? Create Cyber Crime Reporting Cells. Child Helpline - Counsellors / Cyber Experts in our region. Create a Webpage with Complaint / Feedback Form. Ensure Online Safety. Help from NGOs, Local Cyber Police . Toll Free Number – 1800 209 6789

WHAT A SCHOOL SHOULD DO? Cyber Congress. Awareness Workshops for Students, Teachers & PARENTS. Train the Teachers as well as Parents on Cyber Threats and Securities. Positive use of Internet should be highlighted more for students. Cyber Exhibitions. Cyber Journal / Online.

CYBER CRIME : SAFETY TIPS Principal, Teachers and entire Staff should be vigilant at all times about the symptoms of a cyber victim. Each staff member must know how to help such victims. Necessary safety measures should be taken in all Computers by installing Anti Virus, Firewalls and blocking various unwanted websites.

OTHER SAFETY TIPS…. School Head boys, Head girls and other students should take a lead role to find student in distress, victim of cyber bully. Parents should be asked to maintain a cordial relationship with children and be vigilant at all times especially when child is using technology. If at a very young age, an individual is protected, he can keep himself and others also protected.

SPECIFIC ROLE OF TEACHERS Students should be guided. No Sharing of Passwords, Using of Alphanumeric Passwords with special characters. e.g: Groom%9942 No Response to threatening mails, don’t delete, keep them as proof. If photograph morphed or fake identity is created, inform your teachers. Don’t remain silent. Don’t accept requests from strangers. Don’t open e-mails from strangers with attachments. Check Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions before submitting details for any App / Computer software / E- Commerce Websites. All computers must have – Antivirus, Firewall, Licensed Softwares. Discourage the students from over using Internet. Guide parents to keep the computer systems in living area, not in personal rooms.
