Magnets and Magnetic Fields Physical Science

Magnets All magnets have two poles Likes repel Opposites attract North & South They can’t be isolated Likes repel Opposites attract

Magnetic Fields Magnets repel or attract due to the interaction of magnetic fields Think of it as the region of influence

Earth’s Magnetic Field The magnetic field lines of our planet run from geographic south to geographic north. The magnetic north pole is in Antarctica The magnetic south pole is in north Canada Magnetic South Geographic North Geographic South Magnetic North

Earth’s Magnetic Field Due to the Earth’s magnetic field deflecting charged particles from the sun. This creates the Northern and Southern Lights
