A short introduction to the ozone weekend effect in Germany (Federal Environmental Agency in Germany, II 6.2, Wolfgang Bräuniger, Rainer Lacombe)

Statement: The weekend effect with higher values at the weekend is quite clear for the urban station (figure 1 + 2). But it arises also for the other station classes. The effect is only less noticeable in the ranking of traffic stations to rural stations. The effect is least at the remote (in Germany mountain) stations (figure 5). It both the averages values and the daily maxima (figure 3) we allocated. Since, however ozone peak values arise only in certain weather conditions, we undertook these analyses after 10 objectively defined weather conditions. The result was confirmed for these weather conditions (classes, mostly 8,9) where higher ozone concentrations (figure 5) occured. Missing: We analysed only nation wide averages in Germany. We did not analyse regions to find out differences for luv and lee effects of conurbation areas.
