Club Space Allocation Report, 2016 Principal Investigator: Christina Van Wingerden Assistant Director VU Facilities: Greg McBride Poster created by: Kyra Oziel Purpose of Assessment To test the perception of an increase use of South Campus space by AS clubs, ESC clubs, and departmental clubs If the perception is correct, gain an understanding of the increased use of South Campus spaces and the impact on VU space. Implementing Assessment Findings This assessment revealed a need across several clubs for a dance space. Required elements of this space were identified as: Non-Carpeted Floors Open Floor Space Sound System Mirrors To address this need a room on the 4th floor of the VU was modified into an appropriate dance room Outcome Goals Identify space utilization rates Identify motives behind location choices Discover satisfaction with current campus spaces Relate event/ meeting needs of a sample of AS/ESC student groups/ clubs Assessment Summary It was ultimately determined that there was a shift in club meeting locations towards south campus, Academic West in particular, although room choice was less tied to portions of campus than to space criteria such as proximity to parking lots, availability of rooms, and which physical elements of a room matched each club’s requirements. This assessment also illuminated a common need across several clubs that was not being met, namely a dance space. Findings related to other identified needs will be used in future conversations about space development for student activities. New Dance Space Before After Factors That influence Room Selection Convenience for member access Proximity to parking Membership Room type Capacity Technology Configuration Availability of rooms during traditional meeting times
