Presentation transcript:

Transition from 2nd 3rd grade

Words are introduced prior to reading the story BVS (Building Vocabulary Skills) 4 activities per week Test includes 10 “Show What You Know” & 10 “Quick Quiz” (short definitions) Amazing Words Words are introduced prior to reading the story Words are incorporated/discussed to show their connection to the story Test includes short definitions and fill in the blank

Why don’t you see these words come home? Based on our Florida Language Arts standards, 3rd grade students should be able to… “Ask and answer questions about information from a speaker, offering appropriate elaboration and detail.” “Ask questions to check understanding of information presented, stay on topic, and link their comments to the remarks of others.”

What will change? Our comprehension tests will move from the weekly story to “cold reads” based on the weekly skill or strategy

Science & Social Studies Science: We are developing note taking skills in class and encouraging the studying of said notes at home. Social Studies: We utilize the Studies Weekly Newspaper to address 3rd grade standards. **We alternate Science and Social Studies (Roughly 4 weeks of each)**

Math We use GoMath for our instruction. No notes can be used on test days, only your child’s brilliant brain!
