Process of historical inquiry using the History K-10 Syllabus Step 1 Question: use the language of time to shape questions to plan develop an investigation Step 2 Research: acquiring primary and/or secondary sources which may be related to the area of inquiry Step 3 Analyse: do the sources contain information that can be considered useful for this inquiry? Process information to begin to develop an informed argument or opinion Step 4 Evaluate: the reliability of the sources (i.e. Can the information processed in the previous step be believed? Are there limitations to the sources ‘believability’?) Step 5 Communicate: synthesise information from sources, formulate a perspective and develop an historical text to describe what occurred QUESTION REDESIGN Inquiry questions may need to be redesigned as a result of analysing and evaluating sources
