We need to escape The bondage of sin – Romans 3:23 John 8:34 Romans 6:16-18, 22-23
We need to escape The judgment of God – Romans 2:3 Hebrews 9:27 2 Corinthians 5:10 John 5:28-29 – Even Jesus taught this
We need to escape Eternal condemnation – Matthew 23:33 2 Thessalonians 1:6-9 Matthew 25:46, 41 – everlasting punishment the fire prepared for the devil and his angels
Many did not escape In Noah’s day– Genesis 6:5-8 1 Peter 3:20-21, Hebrews 11:7 – only Noah and his family escaped, through obedience. 2 Peter 2:5, 3:4-6 – we forget this to our detriment, cf. Matthew 24:37-39
Many did not escape Sodom and Gomorrah – Genesis 19 Genesis 19:17-21 – Lot and his family permitted to escape 2 Peter 2:6, Jude 7 – turning the cities to ashes
Many did not escape Israel and Judah – The Old Testament tells the history of these nations from their inheriting the land to David to the dividing into two nations to the fall of both (Israel carried away by Assyria and Judah by Babylon). Jude 5
Many did not escape Jonah – he tried to run away from the LORD Jonah 1:3, but he could not escape his responsibilities. He went and preached to Nineveh as commanded
Many did not escape Angels that sinned – 2 Peter 2:4, Jude 6 – destined for the place originally prepared for them – Matthew 25:41, Revelation 20:10, 14-15
Many did not escape The rich man awaking in torments – Luke 16:19-31 – a glimpse into eternity for both the ungodly and the saved. The rich man’s fate was sealed and no relief was available. NOT all will escape Matthew 7:13-14
The way of escape The warning of our text (Hebrews 2:3) implies that we CAN escape God’s wrath – IF we do NOT neglect (walk away from) our salvation
The way of escape Jesus is the way – John 14:6, Acts 4:12 Jesus is the door – John 10:1-2, 7 – the way out. He is the good Shepherd Are we part of His flock? Galatians 3:27
The way of escape Jesus is the light – John 8:12, 12:35-36, 46 – light exposes darkness, and illuminates the way of escape Jesus makes us free – Romans 6:3-6, Hebrews 2:14-15 through death, he released us who were subject to bondage
The way of escape 1 Corinthians 10:13 concerning temptations, as His disciples, He makes the way of escape so that we overcome and be victorious. 2 Peter 2:9
