BACKGROUND Determination of the diversion rate requires information on the total amount of waste tyres that is generated (i.e. waste arising) computed from: The amount of new tyres that is put onto the South African market on an annual basis; and also Compensating for wear and tear. Assumptions: For a given year, all the new tyres that are put onto the market become waste Each tyre loses about 25% by mass due to wear and tear
LIMITATIONS There were court cases that delayed the implementation of the REDISA plan (i.e. though approval was granted November 2012, implementation only started in Mid 2013 after the court cases were settled. There was no accurate information on the amount of tyres that were being manufactured (incl. imports) for the South African market on an annual basis in 2012.
REDISA PERFORMANCE & DEVIATIONS
