WELCOME TO THE CHURCH OF CHRIST

TEMPTATION TEMPTATION INTRODUCTION: Since the beginning when God breathe life into man, temptation has been there. What is temptation: James describes is as. (James 1: 12-15)

TEMPTATION EXAMPLES: The Garden- Genesis 3:1-6 THE WILDERNESS- MATT 4:1-10

TEMPTATION TEMPTATION These are the temptations we deal with everyday. (1 John 2:16) Lust of the flesh Lust of the eye Pride of life

How do we overcome temptation? With self-discipline What is self-discipline? Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary – “Correction or regulation of oneself for the sake of improvement” The NKJV uses the word ‘temperate’- self-control (1 Corinthians 9:24-25) Olympic Runners must practice self- discipline to become the best. The same is for the Christian.

TEMPTATION Notice temperance comes after knowledge Self-Discipline is a fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22-25) The spirit through the word teaches us how to develop self-discipline It is required for us to learn and develop self- discipline (2 Peter 1:5-10) Notice temperance comes after knowledge

TEMPTATION How to Develop Self-Discipline Begin with An “I Can” Attitude 1.Paul had an “I Can” attitude (Phil 4:13) 2.You can do anything that God expects of you. Meet any temptation Fulfill any command Bear any trial Perform any duty Live any circumstance (1 Corinthians 10:13)

TEMPTATION Since God expects you to control yourself “you can do it.” -You can say “NO” -You can bridle your tongue -You can quit what you know to be wrong -You can make yourself do what you know you need to do -You can do without some things that you may desire and want -You can overcome habits and practices that you have learned and developed

TEMPTATION Conclusion God gives us all we need to overcome temptation. We have to decide whether or not we Love him enough to do his will and not our own.

TEMPTATION Hear- Rom 10:17 Believe- Rom 10:9 Repent- Acts 17:30 Confess- Rom 10:10 Be baptized -Acts 22:16 Remain Faithful- Rev. 2:10
