WELCOME to Charlotte, North Carolina … AWI Project Management Seminar June 23 & 24, 2006 Summer CATE Williamsport, PA

The Queen City Welcome to Charlotte, the Queen City. Charlotte's southern culture represents a colorful spectrum—the fine artwork of the Mint Museum—to the engine—racing thunder of NASCAR that draws more than one million visitors each year. Whether you stay a day, weekend or longer, Charlotte will keep you entertained. Around the middle of the 1700's, Scotch-Irish settlers came along the Great Wagon Road from Philadelphia. Near the Catawba River, they stopped and built a settlement which continued to grow as new neighbors moved in. The name for this new settlement was Charlotte in honor of the wife of King George III, who was the king of England.. In 1768, Charlotte became an incorporated city. Charlotte was located in the new county of Mecklenburg, which was also named in honor of Queen Charlotte's homeland of Germany. This is how Charlotte became known as the "Queen City."

How good of a day do you expect? Whose Day is It? How good a day? If you answered this question low – ask yourself who’s day is it, If you had a low number – you probably won’t. The seminar team can do nothing to help you have a good day unless you expect to have one.

2. How much risk do you plan to take today? If you choose safety don’t complain about the day. All learning is adventure … comes from surprise, crisis … or children would not learn to walk. How much risk? If you chose ‘safety’ don’t complain today. It comes from change , crisis, etc.. The more risk you take today the more you will learn.

3. How engaged and participatory do you plan to be today 3. How engaged and participatory do you plan to be today? Our culture is designed for passivity. Engagement is everything. 10 – How engaged? This seminar is designed to be interactive – you will be asked to work with people at your table – we believe that engagement is everything.

3. 1 How engaged and participatory do you plan to be today 3.1 How engaged and participatory do you plan to be today? Listening is NOT Learning Learning demands something of us. We cannot receive value for something we have not invested in. 11 – 3.1 engaged Just by listening you won’t learn much, you must be active in order to read. Read the slide…

4. How invested are you in the well being of the whole 4. How invested are you in the well being of the whole? If I am not here for the well being of others … I shouldn't be surprised if they abandon me. 12 – How invested? If you are not hear for the well being of others, don’t be surprised if they abandon you. This is true for the seminar as well as other relationships in your life. In other words, it’s not all about you.
