DIVISION 8 - SURVEYING AND MAPPING REVISIONS EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2006 PUBLIC RESOURCES CODE DIVISION 8 - SURVEYING AND MAPPING REVISIONS EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2006

PUBLIC RESOURCES CODE CHAPTER 1, CALIFORNIA COORDINATE SYSTEM (Revised) CHAPTER 2, TOPOGRAPHICAL MAPPING (No Change) CHAPTER 3, GEODETIC DATUMS AND THE CALIFORNIA SPATIAL REFERENCE NETWORK (New) CHAPTER 4, CALIFORNIA GEODETIC COORDINATES (New) CHAPTER 5, CALIFORNIA ORTHOMETRIC HEIGHTS (New)

PUBLIC RESOURCES CODE CHAPTER 1 California Coordinate System (Revised) Deletes incorrect references to “geodetic positions” Deletes portions that are covered in the new Chapter 3, “Geodetic Datums and the California Spatial Reference Network” Reduces the number of required “reference” stations from two to one If an accuracy is claimed for the CCS values, requires specific information to be shown and documented

PUBLIC RESOURCES CODE CHAPTER 3 Geodetic Datums and the California Spatial Reference Network (New) Establishes NAD83 as the official datum for horizontal positions and ellipsoid heights Establishes NAVD88 as the official datum for orthometric heights (elevations) Establishes the California Spatial Reference Network (CSRN) as the official “control” network Defines the requirements for stations included in the CSRN; similar to the provisions defining the California Spatial Reference System - Horizontal in the previous CCS statutes

PUBLIC RESOURCES CODE CHAPTER 4 California Geodetic Coordinates (New) Establishes definitions and procedural requirements for certain geodetic surveys, similar to Chapter 1 (CCS) Provides that positions conforming to the statutes may be identified as “California Geodetic Coordinates of 1983” (CGC83) Specifies the documentation required for CGC83 surveys

PUBLIC RESOURCES CODE CHAPTER 5 California Orthometric Heights (New) Establishes definitions and procedural requirements for certain orthometric height surveys, similar to Chapter 1 (CCS) and Chapter 4 (CGC) Provides that orthometric height values conforming to the statutes may be identified as “California Orthometric Heights of 1988” (COH88) Specifies that the latest NGS “geoid model” shall be used when determining COH88 values from ellipsoid heights; permits the use of “local orthometric height correction” models Specifies the documentation required for COH88 surveys

PUBLIC RESOURCES CODE Use of the new statutes is optional Comments: Dick Davis (916) 227-7328 Adrian_Davis@dot.ca.gov
