INTRODUCTORY

Chronic Pain Management -chronic disease, no cures, very few specialised interventions or skills -general approach to all manifestations - to aid healthy lifestyle and provide psychological support to achieve mindfulness and improve coping skills -to use medications in such a way as to maximize benefits and minimize side effects

CHRONIC PAIN -IS A MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH -IS A MULTIMODAL APPROACH -IS A MULTISYSTEM APPROACH RELIES ON CO-OPERATION AND CO-ORDINATION WITH EVERYONE AWARE OF THE STRENGTHS OF THEMSELVES AND OF OTHERS AND WITH AN UNDERSTANDING OF WHO IS NEEDED AND HOW TO UTILISE RESOURCES AND EVERYONE INCLUDES THE PATIENT THEIR FAMILY THEIR CARERS AND SOCIETY

Chronic Pain Medicine ..is not…

SO WHAT’S THE PROBLEM?

“EVERYMAN”

DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS

DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS THE WARRIOR THE CLERIC THE ROGUE/THIEF/ACROBAT THE WIZARD

IS NOT A SURGEON-LIKE A WARRIOR A ROGUE-LIKE A PHYSIO A CLERIC –LIKE A GP A PSYCHOLOGIST-LIKE A WIZARD And the patient-like the Everyman they must accompany on their quest

DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS “THE ESCORT QUEST” AS AN EVERYMAN JOURNEY

.and the journey might be… …through anywhere..
